Maneys Tower – Torre de Maneys
The Poets TowerManeys Tower
I was spending few days with my family at the medieval village of Obidos, initially only at the famous Pousada at the Castle, by Pestana, sleeping like royalty at the old luxurious towers, that once belonged to the kings.
While browsing the internet, I looked at the Maneys Tower, as it looked exactly what I often like. An old building, totally renovated, with great luxury and comfort. But was not aware of the dimensons of the rooms and the space inside, so decided to skip and see for myself once arrived at the village.
While crossing the street, found one of the owners and asked for a visit inside. It was really fascinating, and immediately asked for a room and extended my stay in Obidos for some extra time, to fully enjoy this beautiful piece of architecture.
Maneys Tower (Torre de Maneys) was initially built in the XVI century and is claimed to have been an old storage tower of the Obidos Medieval Village and Castle.
The main house, beautifully made of stone, is connected to the second house right in front by an enclosed bridge crossing the street. In fact, when you look at the building from the outside, you can’t even notice they are connected.
The current owners found the tower in ruins a while ago, and decided to buy and complete renovate it, along with the second building, so they could be connected and gather some extra area.
They feature only 4 bedrooms, so it’s really a small boutique luxury guesthouse, rather than a large hotel that most people are used to.
The architecture project was really awesome and fascinating. It kept the old medieval style, while turning the inside with total modern comfort.
The buildings inside are narrow and with many steps, so be aware if you have troubles going up and down. But Obidos is really like that, so be prepared.
Maneys Tower is place of relaxation, and one of the best places to stay in Obidos. Aside the stunning medieval architecture, what also fascinated me was the furniture and decoration, excellent quality and personal taste, giving a real felling of a medieval castle.
The breakfast was one of the highlights, mostly because of the quietness and relaxation, where you have no other noisy guests and people jumping to grab the last bite. Here it’s just you and maximum just few other guests. And the nice lady Carla gives an extra help, preparing the meal for you.
They get booked quickly with just 4 bedrooms, so make sure you get yours in advance.
They are available to book on booking.com or directly on their website at maneystower.pt with prices average around 120EUR per night with breakfast.
